Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum Medical College (TMC), located in Chalakkuzhi near the Medical College Junction in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a premier government medical institution and the first medical college established in the state. Affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the college was founded in 1951 and inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, making it a landmark institution with a rich heritage in medical education and healthcare delivery in the region. The college offers a comprehensive range of academic programs including the undergraduate MBBS degree, postgraduate MD and MS courses across various clinical and pre-clinical specializations such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, and Radiodiagnosis, as well as super-specialty DM and M.Ch programs, along with numerous BSc and MSc allied health science courses in fields like Medical Laboratory Technology, Optometry, Dialysis Technology, and Perfusion Technology, plus doctoral PhD programs. The attached multi-specialty tertiary care teaching hospital serves as a major referral center with advanced clinical facilities across numerous departments, providing extensive patient exposure.
